We’re proud to offer $1,000 scholarships to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd year veterinary students who share our passion for community‑centered, relationship‑driven veterinary medicine.

Scholarship Overview

Each year, CARA awards multiple $1,000 scholarships to veterinary students who demonstrate:

  • A genuine passion for veterinary medicine
  • A commitment to compassionate, modern, community‑focused care
  • A connection to or interest in the Pacific Northwest veterinary ecosystem
  • Alignment with CARA’s mission to elevate care for pets, people, and the teams who support them

This scholarship is open to students enrolled in an accredited DVM or VMD program

To apply, students must submit:

1. A 650‑Word Essay

Respond to the following prompt:

“Why are you passionate about veterinary medicine, and how do you believe CARA Veterinary supports the veterinary community in the Pacific Northwest?”

We encourage applicants to reflect on:

  • Their personal journey into veterinary medicine
  • The values that guide their approach to patient and client care
  • The importance of mentorship, collaboration, and community
  • How CARA’s mission and presence in the PNW resonate with their vision for the profession

Who is eligible to apply?

Students currently enrolled in an accredited DVM or VMD program in their 1st, 2nd, or 3rd year.

Do I need to live in the Pacific Northwest to apply?

No. While CARA is rooted in the PNW, students from any location may apply. However, your essay should reflect an understanding of or connection to the PNW veterinary community.

Can I apply if I am a 4th‑year student?

At this time, the scholarship is limited to 1st–3rd year students.

How are recipients selected?

Applications are reviewed by a CARA Veterinary committee based on essay quality, alignment with CARA’s mission, and demonstration of passion for the profession.

How will I receive the scholarship funds?

Recipients will receive funds directly or through their institution, depending on school requirements.

Can I reapply next year?

Yes , eligible students are welcome to apply again.
